It's great when something causes me to look deeper at an
engraver, even when it is something as tragic as the
engraver's death.
This stamp has no
engraver attributed in Gibbons but it is another Stanley Doubtfire work, and a beautiful portrait at that.

The information comes from Adrian's site and as he is probably too modest to blow his own trumpet, I'll do it for him.
http://stampengravers.blogspot.com....stanley.htmlDoubtfire's list is here and includes the portrait of the Queen on the banknotes of several countries.
It also brings up another mystery around the Greek Royal Family set 5D value.

My catalogues have this as engraved
by A. Tassos which was apparently a pseudonym for Anastasios Alevizos (thanks, Nethryk). Adrian lists this as being
by Stanley Doubtfire with the source being The International
Engraver's Line
by Gene Hessler. As most of Hessler's source material was interviews with
engravers still living at the time, I would expect that he is correct.
