lithograving - Thank you for the very fine images. The Tatra National Park set was designed by the graphic artist Jaroslav Lukavský (1924 - 1984), a great admirer of the High Tatras.

The name on the Scott 1643 stamp reads ŠTÁFL honouring the artist Otakar Štáfl (1884 - 1945), another great lover of these mountains. One of his paintings dedicated to the High Tatras appeared on the 4 Kè and 5 Kè values of the 1927 definitives engraved by Karel Seizinger.

I believed that the name GELLNER on the Scott 1644 stamp referred to the poet and graphic artist František Gellner (1881 - 1914) but having studied his biography I am doubtful. The designer of the stamp Jaroslav Lukavský may have associated this particular locality in the High Tatras with whichever person bearing this name, either the poet or just a friend of his.

Just consider another stamp designed by Jaroslav Lukavský (and engraved by Josef Herèík), the 5 Kès PRAGA 1968 airmail issued in blocks of 4 in 1967 as part of a set commemorating World Postage Stamp Exhibitions preceding PRAGA 1968 and look for allusions and joke-making in its design.
