Bridge on Germany 2003 stamp.

Before all Briefzentren took over service, in certain Regions Briefregionen were introduced. These were places where mail was collected and sent to the next Briefzentrum. Right now, AFAIK these Briefregionen do not exist any more, although the cancels were still used some time after the Briefregionen were closed.

There are much more Briefzentrum cancellations than Briefregion cancellations, so it is no wonder they are not that easy to find.

Still working on what briefzentrum is.

A Briefzentrum ("letter centre") is a regional mail sorting & distribution centre - there are 82 of these centres operating for the German postal system, as opposed to around 1000 in the 1990s before these larger Briefzentrums came on line. The first two digits of the 5-digit German postcode corresponds to a BZ (with the exception of BZ 42 for Wuppertal - that BZ has since been closed and mail with a postcode of 42xxx is now divided among 3 other BZs).

This German-language Wikipedia page lists the main cities served by each Briefzentrum.

`Lánchid`- Budapest. Inaugurated in 1849. Ing. William Tierney Clark. The work was coordinated by Adam Clark. Destroyed by the end of II. WW by german troops. Soon rebuilt (these stamps were issued in 09.11.1945-showing the destroyed and rebuilt bridge), but only re-inaugurated in 1949 (centenary).

Thanks for the added info Wadmalatz!

The Hungary issues were interesting.

The Romanian showing the bridge at Cernavoda,
would probably be the same bridge as shown on these !

Very nice (and rare) stamps Rod!

They've been only issued in 1867, right?
