Water is such an important thing for all life on planet Earth that perhaps it is ignored as a topic of collecting because it is so obviously everywhere.

I came across this in some recent kiloware and besides the possible hexagon-shaped cancel it is trying to hide away from me (must search Zimbabwe stamps now!) the thought of the scarcity of water in Africa and other arid regions of the earth was one that came to mind.

And then the recent flooding in Queensland, Australia also.

But we drink it, bathe in it, swim and play sports in it, live (and die) in it, and are made of it.

What does water mean to you?

The thematic of Europa 2001 is "Water, a Natural Treasure". I'll come back later to post picture of some of those stamps. Now it's time of my favorite tv program call Thalassa, the sea magazine on TV5.

It will mean a lot in my small town this year.
last year we had a total of 285.6mm
This is the lowest rainfall for my town
since records began in 1914.

Although it is a record low, we have had similar dry
years in 1940,1954,1972,1979 and 1994.

In the south west U.S. we are experiencing increased population and reduced rain fall and snow pack. Slightly better snow pack last few years but we are always one bad year from real problems.

10 stamps, and I had only seen one before!
The Laotian would look good up close,
they had beautiful stamps before going market and design poor.
Nice one from Cape Verde Islands as well.

Like how I got the mouse cursor in the screen captures? Adds some class, right? (Sorry about that!)

One of the four charities I'm supporting regularly right now is the organization charity: water. Worth everyone's investigation and support, I believe.

I love the Italia stamp of the world on a pottery vessel and the Hungary ones of the world on a box or cup(?). Lovely.

Here is a France / French folding postcard with water as the theme. You write your message, take off the peel-able tape with glue beneath and fold it over and attach it. Message sealed. Neat Idea. I like how the water droplet is caught in stop motion over the course of several pictures.
