It's an optical illusion. When you slowly bring the stamp to your nose, it looks as if the rabbit goes into the hat.

Here is an image of another stamp (see page 1 of this thread) depicting Young Hare, a 1502 watercolor and gouache masterpiece by German artist Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528). This airmail stamp was printed by lithography (EDILA, Editions de l'Aubetin SA, Geneva), and issued by Djibouti on September 25, 1978, Scott No. C120.
