Here is an image of a stamp depicting Russian aviator (or mechanic?, note wrench) and French aviator shaking hands, plus some Russian-built Yakovlev Yak-3 fighter aircraft, designed and engraved by Pierre Gandon, and issued by France on October 18, 1969 to honor the French aviators of the Normandie-Niemen (aka Normandy-Neman) Squadron of the Free French Air Force who fought on the Russian front, 1942-45, Scott No. 1253, Y&T No. 1606. Historical note: Marcel Albert (1917-2010), the official top-scoring World War II French ace, who flew the Yak-3 in the USSR with the Normandie-Niemen Squadron and was made a Hero of the Soviet Union, considered it a superior aircraft to the P-51D Mustang and the Supermarine Spitfire.

Nethryk, I want to continue your topic about «Normady-Niemen»
In Russia, remember with respect participation French pilots in combat in World War II on the side of the Soviet Union. In the USSR was released a few stamps, art envelopes and postcards devoted to "Normandy - Neman".

Squadron "Normandy" was established in Ivanovo in 1942 and later became a regiment of three squadrons - "Ruan", "Le Havre" and "Cherbourg".

Here is a postcard with a picture of Marcel Lefebvre, commander of the squadron, "Cherbourg" - killed in action and posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

On this envelope regimental commander in 1943-44 Pierre Pouyade.

During the war the regiment was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Order of Alexander Nevsky.

Regiment's pilots flew the Yak-1, Yak-3 and Yak-9.

Got this Petlyakov Pe-2 on a recent postcard from Russia. From the same excellent 2011 series as that Yak-3, above.

The Pe-2 was an exceptional WWII-era dive-bomber.

P.S. A longtime lurker, this thread got me to join and post. It's nice to see so many excellent military aircraft stamps.
