The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was an American heavy bomber which attained a distinguished record during World War II. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a B-24 bomber, combined engraved (frame) and photogravure (vignette) by Waterlow & Sons, Ltd., and issued by Nicaragua on November 5, 1954 as one of a set of 14 stamps honoring the Nicaraguan Air Force, Scott No. 758, plus a photo of a U.S. Air Force Liberator in flight, and a YouTube link to a short documentary film about the use of these bombers in Europe during WW2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWOk2--CY6E

Dive bombers attacking targets, printed by typography, and issued by Bulgaria on August 9, 1946 as one of a set of eleven stamps honoring the Bulgarian military and air services, Scott No. 515.

Here is an image of an airmail stamp depicting a Cameroun Air Force Dassault MD 315R Flamant light twin-engined transport airplane, designed by Claude Haley, engraved by Pierre Gandon, and issued by Cameroun on June 21, 1966 as one of a set of four stamps honoring Cameroun's armed forces, Scott No. C76, plus a photo of one of these French-built military aircraft.

The AMX International AMX, a joint project between Italy and Brazil, is a subsonic ground-attack aircraft for battlefield interdiction, close air support and reconnaissance missions now in service with the air forces of Brazil, Italy and Venezuela. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the AMX coming off the drawing board, designed by Felipe Eduardo, printed by lithography, and issued by Brazil on August 19, 1985, Scott No. 2016, plus a photo of A-1A of the Brazilian Air Force.

The 2nu stamp shows a Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIB and the 4nu shows a Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC

100 years of naval Aviation. British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) issued this sheetlet of supermarine scimitar in 2009.

The Supermarine Scimitar was a British naval fighter aircraft operated by the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. The prototype for the eventual production version flew in January 1956 and production aircraft were delivered in 1957. It saw service with the Royal Navy from 1958 until 1969.

100 years of naval Aviation. British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) issued this sheetlet of sopwich pup in 2009.

The Sopwith Pup was a British single-seater biplane fighter aircraft built by the Sopwith Aviation Company. It entered service with the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service in the autumn of 1916. The Pup was eventually outclassed by newer German fighters, but it was not completely replaced on the Western Front until the end of 1917.

100 years of Naval Aviation. Sheetlet of Westland Wessex Helicopter stamps issued by BIOT in 2009.

The Westland Wessex is a British-built turbine-powered development of the Sikorsky S-58 "Choctaw". The Wessex was initially produced for the Royal Navy (RN) and later for the Royal Air Force (RAF. The Wessex operated as an anti-submarine warfare and utility helicopter; it is perhaps best recognised for its use as a search and rescue (SAR) helicopter.

Happy Birthday to Henry Harley "Hap" Arnold (1886-1950), an American aviation pioneer and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, called the "Father of the Air Force." Here are images of a first day cover and of a stamp featuring a portrait of Hap Arnold, designed by American artist Chris Calle, engraved by Thomas R. Hipschen (vignette) and Michael J. Ryan (lettering), and issued by the USA on November 5, 1988 as a stamp n the in the "Great Americans" series, Scott No. 2191, plus an image of an official photograph of General Henry H. Arnold. Note: The two aircraft depicted in the cover's cachet are the modern Rockwell B-1 Lancer bomber and the WW2 era Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.
