Count Francesco Baracca (1888-1918) was Italy's top fighter ace of World War I, credited with 34 aerial victories. The emblem on Major Baracca's plane of a black horse prancing on its two rear feet inspired that of Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari S.p.A. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the fighter ace and "Planes," by Italian artist Giacomo Balla (1871-1958), printed by photogravure, and issued by Italy on June 19, 1968 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Baracca's death (in combat), Scott No. 983, plus an image of a photograph of Count Francesco Baracca standing by his SPAD XIII fighter shortly before his final mission, and a YouTube link to a short documentary (in Italian) about him which includes some interesting footage of World War I vintage warplanes, and some CGI flying action sequences.

Jacqueline Auriol - (November 5, 1917, Challans, Vendée – February 11, 2000, Paris) was a French aviator who set several world speed records.
She earned a military pilot license in 1950 then qualified as one of the first female test pilots. She was among the first women to break the sound barrier and set five world speed records in the 1950s and 1960s.
