The Jewish National Fund [JNF][In Hebrew, Keren Kayemet LeYisrael-KKL] is an organization, founded in Basle,Switzerland in 1901 to buy and develop land in Palestine and later Israel.
Hungarian Jew Theodore Herzl, widely regarded as the father figure of the State of Israel, was, together with German Hermann Schapira, the brains behind the movement.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_National_Fund

The first JNF Fund-raising labels were issued in 1902, and labels have been issued ever since including many from overseas offices and sister organizations.
Until recently, the labels were not hard to find nor were they expensive, save for some early examples. But in the last 15 years or so the prices have risen and good material hard to come by.

I have a JNF price list based on an old Kaplove catalogue [which is hard to find]. The list is from 1998 and was the last one printed.
More recently, an acquaintence of mine, Mr Ralph Philips of Tel Aviv completed a catalogue of JNF labels, both of Jerusalem and Worldwide offices.

Since the purchase of this catalogue {CD} last November, my interest has grown but the labels are hard to find in good condition so the search will be long and arduous.
Last Tuesday I found a small, messy stamp shop in Tel Aviv [which I wrote about elsewhere ] and saw some great JNF and other Judaica Labels, although many were toned and in poor condition. However, I did manage to find some nice xamples, shown below.

If I find more,I will add them here. If anyone else has any, or thinks they have, then please post them up here.

Jezreel Valley, 1946

The above were overprinted for postal use in May 1948 for a short period.

Josef Trumpledor,War hero. 1945

Independence Declaration, 1949

A Diaspora Issue from Austria, showing the Grave of Theodore Herzl.

Finally for now, Teachers Council Labels from the 1960's issued in Booklet form. Shown is a pane with space for the Students name and class. These were issued to schools and colleges. Another example of stamps as a learning tool !!

More to come !

Very nice stamps London.

I am sure that one could spend quite some time studying this area all by itself.

Thanks very much LB1 for posting this.

I have one of the Josef Trumpeldor labels (and another in a different design which I think also shows him and maybe a view of Tel Hai) but I didn't know who was represented or indeed anything about him.

I found this fascinating article just now:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josef_Trumpeldor

which outlines the amazing life that he had in Russia, at Port Arthur, at Gallipoli and then finally in Palestine.

Many years ago in the late fifties while walking to school with
a buddy who was also a collector we noticed a box at the curb
for garbage pick up which had stamps it.
Mostly Israelis and some labels which I believe were also
from the Jewish National Fund. We both grabbed some.

I don't know what happened to mine though. I wasn't that much interested
in labels then but wish now I had kept them.

Philb.....if you still have these I am willing !

Here is a nice sheet of Emergency labels from Haifa-Nahariya, issued during the War of Independence when large swathes of the country were cut off.
I won this on eBay but picked it up from the seller at the Stafford Stamp Fair. It was a nice meeting.

Now it's mine.

I did. It wouldn't have been for me though. My friend also collects them. I was going to pick them up for him.

Hi
I do have this cover ,to which someone has added a JNF stamp.I have no idea why.
Would any one know if it had been done for a specific reason?

Hi Snowy

The cover you have is a FDC for the opening of the Israel Parliament.
A very high value [parcel] and the first stamp valued in Prutot. It is an official FDC and the KKL label has been added later.
In the early days, the Post Office did not send out all FDC's with tabs unlike today when all are with tabs.

The overprint on the Bialik KKL label meant it was issued for use during the Seige of Jerusalem [May-June 1948] when there were no postage stamps available. The Violet overprint was for use in Jerusalem during that period and was most likely added to the cover by a collector looking for something different.
