Poor scan. My first clumsy attempt at scanning years ago. Hobart PR (At Bottom) P-R = Pillar Receiver. |

Rod222, do you recall the source of this information? Quote: Everyone, I mean everyone has a Tasmanian stamp with LAUNCESTON CDS. They are as common as politicians.
Get you album out and have a look for one with the code letter "D"
There are only 4 known.
I am not saying they are worth anything, but they are scarce.
Update: "D" also scarce on HOBART CDSs as well. |

FDS, nothing in my files. Hobart and Launceston Postmarks are a very complex discipline. It would be my guess, the information was passed on to me via a colleague, after sourcing it in: Tasmania " The Postal history and Postal Markings" Purves et al. My other Postal Markings information comes from "Philately from Australia" September 1984. Hope that gives you some route. |

Thanks Rod222.
The new book on Tasmanian datestamps by John Hardinge (TPS, 2018) gives the various types for Hobart and Launceston. Some of the D codes are rated 'R'.
I thought your source might reveal which specific type only had four sighted at the time. |

You can compare Hardinge to Purves perhaps, with this Hobart lift. (From the internet) |

Reviving this thread. I found another copy of the PENGUIN partial cancel, and thought it worth a post. I also found an interesting cancel for Upper Tea Tree. I love the Tasmanian cancels, as many are clear and well centered. |

Excellent information! I think I've found my next area to collect ... Tasmania and its cancellations. They are relatively cheap at the local shows ... almost giving them away, so lots of opportunities. |

Bumping this older topic to help identify some cancels. The first one is just for fun. Any idea on this one? This one appears to be "Queenstown", but I could be wrong. |
