Saba is a small (13 km², 5 sq. mi.) Caribbean island consisting largely of the potentially active volcano Mount Scenery (877 m). As I viewed it for the first time from a hilltop on neighboring St. Maarten some years ago, Saba reminded me of nothing so much as the island home of King Kong in the original 1933 film version. Here is an image of a stamp (on piece) depicting a a profile of Queen Juliana (1909-2004), a stylized representation of Saba, and two palm trees, printed by lithogravure, and issued for use in the Netherlands Antilles on February 12, 1973, Scott No. 340. - nethryk PS Plus surprise bonus material, dug out of an old vacation scrapbook only moments ago: My (pre-digital camera era) snapshot of Saba taken from St. Maarten. |

Traena Island edit - Just noticed on the scan, looks like a re-entry on the designer/engravers names at the bottom. |
