The 2c value of South West Africa's 1980-88 wildlife series depicts the African wild dog, which is not the same species as the domesticated dog, and wolf (Canis lupus).

From Wikipedia, "The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus), also called the painted wolf or Cape hunting dog, is a canine native to the sub-Saharan Africa. It is the largest indigenous canine in Africa, and the only extant member of the genus Lycaon, which is distinguished from Canis by dentition highly specialized for a hyper-carnivorous diet, and lack of dewclaws...The African wild dog is a highly social animal, living in packs with separate dominance hierarchies for males and females. Uniquely among social carnivores, the females rather than the males disperse from the natal pack once sexually mature."

This January 24, 1976 special cancel of Leonberg, Germany bears the inscription "Leonberger dog breeding".

From wikipedia, "The Leonberger is a giant dog breed whose name derives from the city in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. According to legend, the Leonberger was ostensibly bred as a "symbolic dog" that would mimic the lion in the town coat of arms. It is in the Working Group for dog shows such as Crufts, but not in the World Dog Show."
