The Czech hunting dogs are great. They certainly benefit from nice, big scans. I've never seen them all in one place.

rod222 - Re your neat Denmark stamp above: I suppose there must be all kinds of collectors out there.

Cjd - Thanks. Isn't this technology wonderful? Scanning and magnifying my engraved stamps has greatly enhanced my enjoyment of them.

Here are images of two stamps featuring "working dogs," both designed by Greenlandic artist Jens Christian Rosing (1925-2008), and engraved by Czeslaw Slania.

Dog sled, issued by Greenland on February 29, 1972, Scott No. 81, Facit No. 80.

Sirius Sled Patrol, 25th anniversary, issued by Greenland on October 16, 1975, Scott No. 101, Facit No. 95.

Good one, Nethryk.

Aside from the initial reaction
quite a brave and pertinent issue from the Danes,
they deserve applause.
Assisting football coaching on a large multi use
oval in Australia, brings the realisation of what
can happen when dog owners are lazy.

Nethryk or anyone familiar with Greenland stamps and Scott numbers: my old Scott catalogue (1975) shows the dogsled stamp as #72 rather than #81. Based on my internet search the stamp is now indeed #81. Can anyone tell me if all the Greenland numbers were changed or was it just a select few? Hopefully it was only a few or I will have some work to do during the dog days of winter.

cynical - Sorry, but I don't know the answer to your dogsled stamp catalogue number change question.

The Korean Jindo Dog is a breed of hunting dog known to have originated on Jindo Island in South Korea. It is celebrated in its native land for its fierce loyalty and brave nature. Here is an image of a definitive stamp depicting a Jindo Dog, printed by lithogravure, and issued by Republic of (South) Korea on December 31, 1962, Scott No. 360, SG No. 333.

I thought these Newfoundlanders had been posted here, but perhaps there's a different dog thread going. Here they are anyway.

And for something a little cuter, my own companion Max. Really, he's a Newfoundlander on the inside trying to get out!

Jamesw: do you know the Scott# for the 14 cent Newfoundland dog given the two issues (always a problem for me).
