Hi, I have this early Romanian stamp with cancellation:
"Pitesti Mandate" . I was curious what was meant with 'Mandate'.
Any help appreciated!

mandat= postal order (money order). mandat, singular/ mandate plural, i.e. mandate=postal orderS.

Thanks for the response!

Would this mean that the stamp was used on a money order? Not on a regular letter?
Why is the text in English in stead of Romanian?
I am sorry for all the questions but I have still limited knowledge about this territory of stamp
collecting!

You helped me out as well Wadmalatz. I also have a couple of those cancellations and always wondered what they were.

Thanks a lot.

The text is in Romanian. This cancellation means: Pitesti/ 30 Oct. 1910 / Money Orders.
Yes, it was used on money orders, `mandate`- meaning money orders. Feel free to ask anything about this territory, although I`m not specialized in Romanian stamps (but have a good Romanian catalogue for classic stamps :))
Pitesti is a city in the southern part of Romania.
