Canada 1929 Scott 158 50c dark blue "Schooner Bluenose"

I have been looking for the "Bluenose" for a long time, and last night our local Stamp club had one on its silent auction. I picked up this little beauty- Yes!

I consider the "Bluenose" to be in the top five classical designs of all time. The U.S. 1898 Scott 292 $1 black "Western Cattle in Storm" also comes to mind. I don't have that one yet.

Do you agree the "Bluenose" deserves the honor?

And what other stamps would you put in that rarefied air?

I have a number of these stamps, but this one is nearly a gem! I love the plate # and SoN cancellation. If you don't mind my asking ... what did you pay for it?

The Bluenose is a cornerstone in any Canadian collection and one of the all time beauties. Love the imprint too!

I'll have to drop out. I'm afraid of pulling a perf when separating the selvage.

Very nice example.

The Bluenose is what got me into collecting Canada and Provinces. It is a heck of a beauty. The man in the mast variety is a big premium plate position but they are really rare! I keep hoping one will turn up that is not too pricey... Or better yet simply not noted by the seller.

I am not a Canada collector, but I've thought that was an exceptionally beautiful stamp ever since I first saw it. Congratulations on the purchase!

... I've been primarily a Japan collector, but I've decided to make the switch to start disposing of them, as an attempt to downsize (and not leave disposal problems to my heirs). Nevertheless, I keep thinking about starting a small of collection of "purty stamps" -- no rhyme or reason to them, except that I think they're very attractive -- and this one would be on that list. (So much for downsizing!)

Well done, Jkjblue! (Is it Jim?)
