Poor Guatemala whoever scheduled the stamp values they needed had problems..usually they ran out of the common 1 and 2 centavo stamps and overprinted the higher values down to 1 and 2 centavos..here they seem to have gone the other way and overprinted the 1 centavo to make it a 25 centavo !

I like overprints too...... ...on Cinderellas that turn them into stamps ! .....or on stamps that turn them into Cinderellas ! I also like them on cheap Cinderellas that turn them into expensive Cinderellas ! ..and also on expensive Cinderellas that turn them into cheapies Quote: Still looking ! And last but not least, I love them on Cinderella reproductions of classical stamps that make them more expensive than the original ! Well, at least I tried ! Londonbus1 |

As far as I know, the bars were done with ordinary black ink rollers. Bars were of varying widths and of varying spaces between. The possibilities are endless........but a great collecting sideline. Graphite was used under the gum of some early QEII Definitives as a means of making Electronic sorting easier. One and two bars exist. Londonbus1 |

How about a classic overprint on a stamp which did not previously exist !?? Now there's a good thread topic ! One of my favourites [oh why did I sell it ]. 1935 British Forces in Egypt Letter stamp in Ultramarine with the overprint in Red. The stamp was previously issued in Carmine and Green with no overprint. The 'new' colour has a more regal look for such an occasion ! Londonbus1 |

Here are some overprints I picked up yesterday: Hungary 1920 overprints (on overprints): A closer look at the high value: A few early New Caledonia: (the damaged one is a tag along) I must like overprints, too! Now to look closer to see if any of them are genuine. |

Picking up on Londonbus's suggestion of stamps that only exist with overprints, this Cochin SG 122 of 1949 only properly exists as a postage stamp with the surcharge. A few copies leaked out without the surcharge They're mentioned (and priced) in a footnote in Gibbons. |

And some nice overprints and surcharges on a Travancore government cover: (The 1941 4 Chuckrams, perf 11, with the 1943 8 Cash surcharges, also perf 11. (And don't be misled by the date in the cancellations: '12 THU 20' is equivalent to 28 October 1944 CE.) |

Haven't any scans or photos (yet), but I've been busy with Turkey in the 1915 - 1919 time frame, and there are many varieties, overprints on surcharges, many series with similar overprints. I'm finding it a real challange. Hungary is reltively simple by comparison, Persia however, is also a challange. How many are genuine is a factor, as counterfiets abound in all three cases. |
