Nice array ! PS: In the Souvenir sheet, is that a "windlass" for pulling boats from the water? Not come across those before. I collect SPM, but don't much bother whether others collect them or not. After all, I collect Ajman and Fujeira et al, and used to opinionated elitists, suggesting what I should collect or not. Water off a duck's back. I collect what gives me pleasure and interest, and is fun. Some Marianne Luquet's and, aptly........Liberté, égalité, fraternité Indeed |

Don't collect St. Pierre & Miquelon per se, but have six of 'em in my New York World's Fair topical collection. Here's a bit of the page they occupy: The first two were already shown on Tommy's wonderful cover, of which I'm envious, as well as in Breefmack's set of collection pages, but here I include the two sets of Free French overprints. -Jonathan |

Quote: Here is another "cabestan" (capstan ?) from 2006 Indeed, CAPSTAN is correct, windlass not. My son's percussion teacher, was ship's modeller Completed models were adjudged by a panel, and marked. He had catalogues much like our stamp brothers, and ropes and riggings had to be just perfect for the craft being modelled. Fascinating stuff. |

Quote: before the thread falls back into oblivion Not so! SCF is the font of Philatelic knowledge, true, some threads may seem dormant, but they lie there, awaiting the next collector to sip at the well. consider it like the vast library of Alexandria Your lovely scans have added to that knowledge. Good threads, Good thread titles, last forever. |

Thanks rod222! I had my tongue halfway in cheek, but appreciate the kind words! I did make a boo-boo, however and uploaded the same stamp twice for 2023! The 1,60 little birdie under 2022 is a 2023 issue. Al |

My favorite to collect next to Canada. After all they are just next door to my location in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Receive the yearly issues directly from LaPoste in France. Lovely thematic collections can be made from the stamps of that Collective. |

The France Libre stamps are the key to the lack of popularity of SPM. They were controlled by various speculators from the beginning and still may be. It's bad enough that everything was overprinted that they could put their hands on and then followed with the NOËL 1941 overprints. Don't forget the errors made for collectors. It was all off-putting to collectors of the time. Plus, many have been forged, from poorly done to excellent.
Now if you want a challenge and have deep pockets, try and complete SPM. The great rarities are just that with just 4-5 examples overprinted. |
