Chimu Gold Treasure
August 16, 1966
The Chimu civilization flourished on the northern coast of Peru. The culture arose about 900 A.D. The Inca ruler Tupac Inca Yupanqui led a campaign which conquered the Chimu around 1470 A.D.
The Chimu are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal working of copper, gold, silver, bronze, and tumbaga (copper and gold).

The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum (Museo del Oro Precolombino) is a museum in San José, Costa Rica. It is located in a subterranean building underneath the Plaza de la cultura and is managed by the Banco Central de Costa Rica. The museum has a substantial collection of over 1600 artifacts of Pre-Columbian gold dating back to 500 A.D.

The Treasure of Nagyszentmiklós is an important hoard of 23 early medieval gold vessels, in total weighing 9.945 kg, found in 1799 near the town of Sânnicolau Mare in northern Banat. The pieces featured in the stamps include a bowl with a bull head, a pitcher with a medallion, three ewers, and a box.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mapungubwe was once the capital of the Kingdom of Mapungubwe (1075–1220 A.D.) in southern Africa located at the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers. The stamp set features five pieces of artifacts from the site, among them a gold bowl, a gold rhino, and a gold scepter.
