Gold is a chemical element with atomic number 79. It is one of the least reactive chemical elements.

So it occurs often in free elemental form like nuggets or grains..... From the beginnig of civilisation it is used for jewelry, coinage and other arts.

.............symbol Au (from Latin: aurum)
I am sure that you can find a lot of gold on your stamps.

This stamp has the color of gold, a fitting choice for California. ((Hi, Blackhorse, welcome to SC; you can find exchange rates (which fluctuate considerably) on the web simply by putting in "Swiss francs - US dollars"; at present it's about one:one. K.)) |

Bulgaria Panaguriste Gold Vessels - Thracian Treasure November 28, 1966 The Thracians ( ca. the 4th Century B.C.) were a group of Indo-European tribes inhabiting a large area in Central and Southeastern Europe. The Thracians either had skillful craftsmen themselves or access to Greek craftsmen. They made beautifully ornate golden and silver objects. To date, more than 80 Thracian treasures have been excavated in Bulgaria which happens to be the cradle of the Thracian civilization as the treasury shows. The nine pieces of gold vessels shown in the stamps are excavated from the town of Panaguriste. They comprise a phiale, an amphora, and seven rhytons with total weight of 6.164 kg of 24-karat gold. All these objects are richly and skillfully decorated with scenes of Thracian myths, customs and life. |

Romania The Pietroasele Treasure July 25, 1973 The Pietroasele Treasure (or the Petrossa Treasure) found in Pietroasele, Buzau, Romania in 1837, is a late fourth-century Gothic treasure that included some twenty-two objects of gold, among the most famous examples of the polychrome style of Migration Period art. Of the twenty-two pieces, only twelve have survived, conserved at the National Museum of Romanian History in Bucharest. The six stamps portrays fibula, colan, patera, oenochoe, plate, and octagonal vase. The minishet protrays an eagle-shaped fibula. |
