There's a short article on footwear on stamps from Linn's, 2015, that may be of interest:

Puss in Boots also features on lots of stamps.

A pictorial cancellation featuring a man's shoe was used on this 1948 stamp from the French zone of occupation in the Rhineland-Palatinate.

Well now, that is super cool!
I would really love to see what the whole cancel looks like.

The cancel is from Rodalben. I googled "Rodalben stempel" and found a somewhat similar cancel from 1962. So, there must be a shoe manufacturing history in this little town. Yes, I wish this one were on piece with the complete postmark.

I have a version of this, though I'm too lazy to wake up my scanner...

It's from W. Germany, 1973, from the "Prevent Accidents" series. Other stamps included a safety helmet and frayed electrical wire.

I love that Germany series, especially the one with the brick falling on the man's head!

2015 marked the 50th anniversary of "Jugend forscht", or 'youth does scientific research'. Projects from bio-medical to geo-physical are submitted to scrutiny by experts in the field and young people up to the age of 21 can win prizes and scholarships. M. Beyrow, who did the design, brought sneakers and brains together, nice idea.
