Densely forested hills surround the Edersee, which lies almost exactly in the center of Germany. The region was declared a national park and added to the UNESCO list of world nature heritage sites in 2011.


The castle Waldeck overlooks the lake from the north.

Göygöl (the Blue Lake) is a natural impounded lake at the footsteps of Murovdag in western Azerbaijan. The lake is situated at 1,556 meters above the sea level and is known for its pure mountain water.

The Spreewald lies just a bit south of Berlin. It is a large area of completely flat wetlands through which the river Spree slowly flows in an endless network of canals connecting tiny villages. The main means of travel is by canoe and small barges. The whole region is protected landscape "Landschaftsschutzgebiet". Stamps of 1966, 1996.

Gaomei Wetlands lie in Chingshui at the south side to the mouth of the Dajia River. The marshy land at the estuary supports a rich and complex wetland ecology and is famous for bird watching. The stamp depicts a sunset scene with wind turbines in the background.

Kolkheti National Park lies on a coastal plain on the Black Sea in western Georgia. The swamps and wetland forests of the park contain a wide variety of species. Some of the birds endemic to the park include Black Stork, Crane and Great White Egret.

The Neusiedler See lies on the border of Austria and into Hungary. It is a large flat lake surrounded by agricultural land and small villages but also touristy areas. It's a birder's paradise any time of the year, especially during migration times and is now a UNESCO world nature heritage site. Stamps of 1945 and 2003.

The National Park Unteres Odertal is the floodplain of the Oder River just south of Stettin at the border to Poland. This wetland area provides a resting and feeding area for millions of migratory birds from and to Scandinavia and the Baltic region. Stamps of 2003 and 2014.

The Ubsunur hollow is a unique nature reserve in the Republic of Tyva. Steppes, mountains, marshy lowlands on the shore of the salt lake Ubs-Nuur are the protected natural heritage of Russia.
