The northern coast of Germany at the Baltic Sea is a vast wetland area known as the Bodden. The water isn't quite as salty as the ocean and the numerous islands are fringed with reed grasses. It is a national park since 1990 and has a surface area of about 800,000 square kilometers. Rare plants and animals have come back, notably grey cranes by the countless thousands. Hi Kuol, For a long time I have been wondering where to show off the many stamps to this topic, so I shall certainly enjoy it! K. |

The second stamp featuring the Bodden was issued in 2015, 25 years after the establishment of the park. (The souvenir sheet above was issued in 1996, at that time D-Mark, € didn't turn up till 2000.) |

Northeastern Germany is remarkably flat, a lowland region with countless lakes carved by ice-age glaciers. It is called the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte (as flat as a platter). This stamp is part of a large set showing geographical areas by the artist Heinz Schillinger. |
