Hello...I am a new member here and have just started to find my way round the site.I live in Ecuador and collect France and French Colonies.I am really interested in the omnibus series of the 1930,s....fantastic designs and really attractive stamps. My main challenge now is to complete a used set of the 1939 Annivesray of the French Revolution.I have seen a few mint sets for sale, but have not found a complete used set,so am having to do it piece by piece. You mention the Scott price for a mint set.I do not have a Scott catalogue.Does it list a price for a used set ?
Many thanks.
Bob

The total Yvert price is roughly €2,800. You'd probably be best to look at French auction houses, but I'd assume the actual selling price would be 10-20% of that.

Thanks.
I have seen quite a few mint sets but have yet to find a used set.I have tried a couple of the French auction sites, and was unsuccessful with a couple of bids for a MNH set...My maximum was 1000euros,which is probably about 30% of catalogue.I tend to buy most of my items on Delcampe, and most sellers tell me it is very hard to find used sets.

I don't know how difficult it is, but the mint sets are usually what you find in collections - not surprising as, like the Commonwealth omnibus issues, they were issued to extract money from collectors. I don't follow French auction sites, so that was just a guess!

Paradise Valley (on SAN) is having a French colony sale specifically. I haven't checked through all their listings, but I imagine there's a French revolution set or two in there. Did notice a complete set of all the 1937 colonial exhibition issue.

Anglebob, I likewise really enjoy these sets. Per the recent Scott catalog, the Omnibus 1931 four stamp colonial Exposition issued in 26 colonies retails mint $552.15 and used $544.50. The 1937 Paris International Exposition, with the terrific souvenir sheet issued in 24 colonies retails mint $614.45, used $729.25. Looking at the set prices, nothing really pops up way high, they gravitate around the $20-30 range.
In the 1937 set, Inini, Kwangchowan, and Wallis/Futuna Is issued only the souv. sheet.
Seeing these sets with reasonably clear cancels from these colonies would be a great collection.

As another source, you might think about the APS stamp store, at www.stamps.org, you can search by country. I would also suggest a low cost Scott catalog that is a few years out of date might help, the prices haven't moved that much. In the front under the Common Design sections, you will find indexes that list each design by colony and the scott numbers and prices for each. Good short cut.

VERY best of luck with the quest! Send some scans later with what you find, would like to see them.

My apologies, anglobob, I slipped an 'e' in for the 'o' in your ID.

Good Luck!

anglobob, if only I read more closely; the French Revolution set using info as above, is around $1,572 mint for all 24 issued sets, $1,594 used.
You are also correct-I evaluate collections part time-and these are not normally seen, including the Air Semi-postal version.

Boxcar.1954...thanks for the info.At the moment,I am using the 2016 Stanley Gibbons French Colonies catalogue and only have access to a 2013 Scott in the local stamp club.I have seen the common design lists ,and all the Scott numbers but havent seen the prices. Was this added in later catalogues ?
So far,I have completed a full set of 21 covers of the 1937 Exposition ,all on registered covers.I originally posted on another thread about this,as I was curious to find out more about the individual who received the covers.I also have found a set of the 24 souvenir sheets, also on registered letters. As soon as I receive these,I will post some images.Living in Ecuador means I have to wait about 4-5 weeks to receive mail from Europe.
Have posted a couple of examples ...

Very nice covers!
I do not know when Scott began compiling the scott numbers and values for the CD listings. I know it was recent, and your observation about the 2013 cat agrees, so after 2013 for sure. I REALLY look forward to seeing some more of these covers.

A few more covers from the omnibus sets.
The first is from Senegal, with the 1939 airmail stamp commemorating the 150th anniversary of the French Revolution.Used copies of the airmail stamps are quite difficult to find.I have only found the one on a cover.
The other covers are from the 1937 Inernational Exposition in Paris.

A souvenir sheet from 1937 Paris International Exposition sent from Niger to a shipping agent in Reunion.
The cover is dated 21 April 1943 but has a dated backstamp from St Denis,Reunion of 29 Dec 1943.
I am inclined to think this is bogus due to length of time to arrive, and also no signs of censorship.Would appreciate any help from more knowledgable members.
