Show Us World Musical Thematic Covers

At the suggestion of others, I am creating a place to share music-themed covers from all over the world. My intention would be for this to be very broad, including advertising covers, music-stamps on covers, musical recipients and senders, etc. I'll start with a few of my favorites from my collection. Looking forward to seeing other great pieces.

1. Steinway 1933 cover from Hamburg factory addressed to Theodore Steinway at Steinway Hall in New York City.

I am consolidating some covers from other various threads.

Here is a 1915 German Feldpost cover dated November 2nd. Stamped from the orchestra club of Lyceum 1 in Hannover.

Per NSK on this forum. "It is addressed to the Feld-Artillerie-Regiment General-Feldmarschall Graf Waldersee (Schleswigsches) Nr. 9 of the German Imperial Army established on 2 October 1866 and garrisoned in Itzenhoe, from 1890."

Royal South Street Society 1979. The cancel says UNESCO International Music Council 18th General Assembly 4 Oct 1979.
The scan washed out the envelope, will use a dark background next time.

1. An 1819 stampless cover addressed to John Rowe Parker of the Franklin Music Warehouse in Boston, from J&H Meacham woodwind makers.



2. 1873 advertising cover for Kimball pianos & organs, Chicago.

4. ca. 1865 advertising cover for J. S. Bixby musical instrument dealers in Norridgewok, Maine

Do postcards qualify?

Here's an Esperanto postcard, mailed from Pardubice, Czechoslovakia, to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1921. On the picture side is the sheet music for "La Espero" ("The Hope"), the anthem (or hymn) of the Esperanto movement, lyrics by L. L. Zamenhof, music by Félicien Menu de Ménil.

From my Latin America illustrated cover group is this 1935 music-related Radio Ecuador cover addressed to Frank Holton & Company. Frank Holton was a prominent trombonist with the John Phillip Sousa band and founder of his band instrument manufacturing company in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, circa 1918. Frank died in 1942, but the company continued under different owners in Elkhorn until 2008 when it moved to Eastlake, OH. It appears to be still in business.

Fantastic. Yes, I say postcards do count! Love the esperanto postcard erilaz and had no idea there was an anthem for the movement.

DonSellos, that is a fantastic piece addressed to Holton. Wow! Loving seeing these pieces.

Going musical on this one. Germany 1934 with a 1933 semi-postal. Glockenmuseum cancel. per www.Glocken.org The Bell Museum Laucha was in 1932 the first bell museum in Germany.

I am adding some organ themed covers.

1) The first is an 1846 stampless cover to Mr. Bysell, organist, in Bangor, Maine.



2) An 1854 cover to Thomas Hook, organ builder, in Boston, Massachusetts.

I'm gonna add a different kind of cover. I have just a couple of hand decorated cachets in my collection, but thought they would make a good addition to this thread.

1. OK. Not sure this is truly a cachet as the stamp is on the other side of the postcard, but thought I'd share this ink drawing of a woman playing a guitar from Texas, 1910.



2. A 1960 cachet from Haiti featuring the set of stamps featuring Occide Jeanty and an ink decoration of a woman carrying a basket.



3. A Collins cachet for the Roy Acuff 2003 stamp. My only (and favorite) cachet by this well known artist.

I am excited about this new acquisition. I guess it would be considered an adversity cover, though I am only familiar with that term and American Civil War confederate pieces.

The stamp is from Spain, ca. 1938, so this is from the Spanish Civil War. The envelope is made from a piece of sheet music. I have identified the song as "Los Ojazos de Mi Negra." There are many songs by this title, but I believe this is the version originally from 1923 that was made popular by guitarist and singer Carlos Gardel.
