Here are two Kangaroos with PERTH, WA, Postmarks. In both of them half of the I in AUSTRALIA and all of the final A are missing. The first stamp in a 1d red, BW 4(K)f with the variety "Vertical scratch adjoining Cape York". The second is a 9d violet BW 24 with perfin WS/&Co. This stamp is possibly BW 24(2)i "Break in bottom frame under IN of NINE". Unfortunately, the perfin comes very close to the frame at that point. There are perhaps weaknesses in the shading lines between the frame and IN but then the whole stamp looks like it has an inking problem. |

This stamp is a bit of a mystery to me. I've never had too much enthusiasm for Australian States, It is either SG 33 (Rose) or SG 49 (carmine-rose). I haven't been able to determine the watermark as it appears to be a marginal stamp with a vertical line in the watermark. Any way, this post is for the postmark - another mystery - is a barred oval with K.C.G. in the centre. There is also what looks like a Town/Date stamp but all I can make out is "25" which, for a 1860s stamp, is unlikely to be the year of postage. |

KGS = King George Sound. Duplex configuration, the barred KGS killer sits at (unusually) 90 degrees to the CDS (Circular Date Stamp) Used from 1883 Barred killer "F" (Fremantle) is of similar disposition What you have here. Frank, is a stamp, struck twice, the killer and the CDS (ALBANY) impressions are registered. Very nice ! Thanks for the negative, just fella. Bib: Western Australia, the stamps and postal history. Postmark NEWCARNIE (Rural) 24Km NNE Merredin Known in Blue and Violet. Here, aboard one of the most extraordinary fellows on the Goldfields. An APPLEBY COVEROne of an extensive collection, this Brit fellow wrote home to his wife in Leeds England. Highly prized covers, reach very high values Cast you eye on the artwork ! (Not my Cover) He is awaiting the release of the King George Sideface. The tragedy is, the Postal Hammer was very worn, and most of his covers, the Pmk is nearly illegible. Just-Fella and Rod: Thanks for your inpit on the Albany postmark. Here's another Swan: SG143 5d pale olive-bistre postmarked Peak Hill on 14 March 191?. My best guess would be 1910 for a stamp issued between 1905 and 1912. Peak Hill, per Google, Currently has a population of 7. It was, I am sure, a lot more during its two gold mining eras. Something that looks odd is that, in my limited exposure to postmarks, all Peak Hill postmarks show the date as [MM DD/YY[ while this example is [DD MM/YY]. |

Frank, PEAK HILL10 Known Postal Hammers Yours "Short side arcs" 21.5mm diameter Rates as 2-3 "Known/should exist in increasing numbers" Opinion: fairly scarce Most Peak hill have a scarcity of 1, Known to exist in very low numbers. Stamp shows a hint of red crayon, possibly a registered cover, the 5d impost, would support that. Peak Hill : Ghost Town Gold mining 120 Km North of Meekatharra (That is beyond the black stump) |

Tricky one…..I'd be in favour of 1909 1915 But it's purely a guess, there's really not a whole lot to go on |

Re my peak Hill post: I edited the post but then found out most people had responded by the time my additions went live. So I'll ask the question again. Quote: Something that looks odd is that, in my limited exposure to postmarks, all Peak Hill postmarks show the date as [MM DD/YY[ while this example is [DD MM/YY] I repeat the image of my stamp below along with 4 of the 5 postmark examples given by the Western Australia Study Group. They all use the date form (MM/DD/YY] until 1929. (I missed out the 1939-49 CDS E30 as it was not in the same column. Lazy me!) Apart from this, it does look likeType CDS 3b-b as pointed out by Rod. It is definitely not CDS A30. |

Interesting, never noticed that. In the 23 years the cancelling hammer was in use no doubt there was a replacement of 1 or 2. Day/Month/Year is our normal code.
