1922 THREE HALFPENNY (1½d) Red King George V Head ~ Single Watermark with MOUNT MAGNET - WESTERN AUSTRALIA cancellation dated 19 JUN 26. MOUNT MAGNET is one of the Mid West region's original gold mining towns, and the longest surviving gold mining settlement in Western Australia. The prominent hill that is adjacent to the current townsite was called West Mount Magnet in 1854 by explorer Robert Austin, having named a smaller hill 64 km away, East Mount Magnet (now called Carron Hill). Both hills had an extremely high iron content which affected the readings of his compass. |

A couple that we haven't seen here yet: A Perth parcels cancel...am I seeing 1910 for the year? [Sc96] A Hines Hill canceled, palindromically, on 12-11-12: [Sc103] Looks like Hines Hill was founded in 1910. In 1911, it had a population of 89 - 63 men and 26 women. |

There's a second type? That hole in the collection will keep me up at night...the collector's curse. I didn't know about the first one, and now I know that there are two. |

No comparison image offered Collin, of the 2. Be aware there is a similar CDS (Circular date stamp) as yours but with an outer ring (very often worn)

ONE PENNY SWAN with ALBANY JY 12 1907 cancellation. The settlement was founded on 26 December 1826 as a military outpost of New South Wales for the purpose of forestalling French ambitions in the region. |

Gents, Can you help me with this cancel, is it 'PERTH POST OFFICE'? If so, what date would this hammer have been in use? Many thanks, John |

"Perth Post Office" does not make sense, in that identifies no such dedicated office.
Any Perth Post office will be identified with a location, or a service.
The part postmark, looks odd in its perfection. reminds me of "printed on postmarks" for give away samples.
I'll do a text string search with "H POST O" see if that brings up anything
Any possibility of measuring the diameter of the ring?
Of 20,000 Australian Postmarks, NIL came up with "H POST O" No such text string.
Being a postage due, could it be an Accounting mark perhaps?
What about brancH POST Office ?

Rod,
I have a couple of hagners full of purple cancels on postage dues, none fit the pattern of this cancel.
I don't have reference material for Western Australia or New South Wales but was hoping you would have the answer from the resources you have.
I'm always grateful for your help.

John I have the complete 23 issue Postmarks of WA I think around 2002
I have exhausted every possible text string.
Only advice I can offer is to email the WA Study Group, and / or Philas House in Sydney. I have found them helpful in the past.
Generally speaking, we all love a challenge I am stumped on this one.
I would also encourage you to try and measure the hammer ring, see if it fits within the range of circular date stamps. Looks a little large to me, although these things can trick one.
