Quote: Does anyone know how to purchase 'Postal markings compendium 2006-7 for WA - with rarity guide' or 'Western Australia postal markings compendium' by Robin & Judith Goulder (the books mentioned several couple posts up)? Quote: Maybe the Western Australia Study Group could help? That's where I would go first I am still chasing Goulder, all failures so far From my Library (way out of date, but indicates the rarities) |

Sure, a Duplex Postal hammer, has two parts (duplex) Generally, the left hand part has the CDS (Circular Date Stamps) the right hand part is the "killer" The design then allows the canceller, to cancel the stamp, (kill the stamp) whilst the information, date etc, remains clear on the envelope (cover) That's why you often see the killer part on the stamp, not the date etc Just be aware, not all cancellers are "duplex" these are all duplex |

In your last two magenta stamps you can just see the CDS poking through, on the left hand stamp

There are 3 types You are missing the really thin "G" (1887) horizontally squashed oval bars The rest are combinations of these two DxL-2a Narrow G DxL-2b Wider G |

Geraldton also had G on the obliterator part of the duplex during the 1890's. |

Quote: I'm looking at the second stamp Is this a duplex? Yes, all of yours are Duplexes The really thin G of 1887, is not , it is an eleven bar G in circle, horiz squashed oval bars ---------------- To illustrate the importance ALWAYS of supplying GOOD SCANS when information is required Look at your green pair (poor scan) a decent scan would have shown the right hand stamp is a duplex You can see parts of GUILDFORD on the left hand stamp. |
