Hello all,

I start this thread to show and discuss Cambodia stamps and different items. I collect Cambodian stamps and covers mainly from years 1951 until 1970 before Khmer Republic and before the country issued many stamps that were rarely in use (most of them in 1971-1975). Although I collect up to 1970, I have many stamps and covers post 1970 in my different thematic collections and will share them too.

Let's start with one of my favorite sets shows local birds issued on May 2, 1964:

Eurasian Magpie (Pica pica):

Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis):

Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea):

Here is the set on a cover sent registered on March 3, 1965 from Sihanoukville, Cambodia, to Saigon, Vietnam through Phnom Penh as the transit postmark indicates. The arrival postmark applied in Saigon is very poor:

It's always a pleasure to see your high quality scans Eli.
Just a point: While typing scientific names of plants or animals, use the italic font.

Hi Joy, nice to meet you again! Thanks for your advice, I hope I remember it and use it in my future posts since I am going to show more fauna and flora stamps.

Here are two old postcards franked with French Indochinese stamps and cancelled in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I can't read the year but this kind of postcards, issued by Claude, were in use around 1910:

Here is a short summery of a nice story I published in our association journal under the title "Political censorship in stamps":

The following stamp was issued by Cambodia on November 9, 1968, commemorating the 15th anniversary of Cambodia independence. The stamp depicting King Norodom Sihanouk and Cambodian soldiers crossing a river during operation Samaki in 1953, an operation against the Vietminh troops in Battambang, Cambodia (The young person on the left side of Sihanouk is probably Lon Nol):

Here is the original photo, shows that the soldier on the right side of Sihanouk supporting him with his hand, a detail that was omitted in the stamp design. I assume the designer decided (or received order?) that it is disrespectful to show the King supported by a soldier during an operation headed by him:

After King-father Norodom Sihanouk passed away, Cambodia issued 1n 2013 a banknote shows the same photo of Samaki operation on the back, but this time with the original design shows Sihanouk supported by a soldier. Maybe, when time passed, the Cambodians wanted to show Sihanouk as a human being and not as a glorified powerful King!

Hanuman, the monkey-god, is one of the main characters of the Hindu epic Ramayana, called in Cambodia Reamker. A nice engraved set of five identical design stamps, shows Hanuman was issued by Cambodia on September 1, 1964. Here is one stamp and FDC sent from Phnom Penh, Cambodia to Villiers sur Morin, Seine et Marne, France and applied with arrival postmark:

Another cover franked with complete set sent from Sihanoukville, Cambodia to Paris, France and applied with arrival postmark:

Four of the stamps were overprinted "Olympic Games, Tokyo", revalued and reissued on October 10, 1964:

Regarding the banknote, are we seeing the same one? In the original picture he was supported on both sides, on the stamp - only by the center American, and on the banknote - his image was moved so close to the American that the helping hand is hidden and it looks like Nori is supporting the American.

Hello Rob Roy and GeoffHa,

I think there are no Americans in the photo. The "American" young person on the left side of Sihanouk is probably Lon Nol.

As far as I know, this photo is the only photo shows this scene. I guess that the designer of the banknote moved the image of Sihanouk close to the young person in order to save space and to put the complete photo inside the banknote.

In South East Asian mythologies, Kinnari is a chimera of lower part as a bird and the upper part as a winged female human being enables her to fly between the human and the celestial worlds. Kinnari is a symbol of feminine, beauty, grace and accomplishment renowned for her dance, song and poetry.

Cambodia issued on April 16 and July 1, 1953 in a set of nine identical stamps and three souvenir sheets show Kinnari:

A terrifying stamp recalls the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia was issued in 1999 by Marshall Islands:

No stamps were issued by Cambodia during the years of the Khmer Rouge regime. The KR prepared a set of 7 banknotes but, since they wanted to establish an "agrarian moneyless society", the banknotes were not distributed. Here is one banknote from the set:
