This seems more like trolling than anything.

I will not speak another positive word about you as that is "trolling;" nor will I ever ask again about any rumor, good nor bad, about you, aka fact checking, as long as you are employed by the APS.

Adequate?

Edit:

Prior post was posted while this was typed. As the rumor reported in the OP was in fact in the wild, your name needs to stay for proper context.

You seem upset. Sounds like we should lock this thread and move on with our lives.

By replying to the thread, by responding to the drama, the thread is stays active, gets more views, and ranks higher in search engines. If the desire is for the thread to fade into the ether, then the best thing to do is to stop keeping the thread active.

I don't understand the tendency of some to always want topics locked or comments removed based upon their personal views or comfort levels. Change the channel. Don't read what you cannot handle. Why does everyone get to be shut off from expressing their thoughts because one or three people keep reading something they dislike. It is insane. I have actually had an emoji that I posted removed undoubtably because someone complained. An emoji. Good grief. In fact I have stopped keeping track of the number of comments of mine that have been removed in the past year. Sometimes I don't even know until some time later because it just happens and I am unaware. None of the comments made by myself were personal attacks or obscene or profane. On the other hand I have been called a fascist by a long time member and watched another member brag about getting peoples tax info from an IRS employee. That person likes to call people that help others "catalog queens". Pretty sure that is not a compliment. Both members just cruise along here.

This was always, was it not, a rather odd thread, in that discussed someone almost as if he were entirely absent, rather than a participant in the board. Mr English, rather generously, sought to Scott-ch the rumours, and one can understand his frustration that discussion continues.

I'm sure that no-one is suggesting that Rodg, whilst not, perhaps, the obvious inheritor of the mantle of Charles Sumner, struts down to the Joe Kennedy Memorial Stores in a black shirt feeding castor oil to passing advocates of democracy en route.

As for "catalog queens", just shorthand for "what do they know of philately who only catalogues know?". Sometimes the best answer to a query may entail more than reaching for Scott or Gibbons.

I hope this helps.

I guess this thread is not locked.

I assume the term "catalog queen" (why not king) is a negative label used by the person calling someone a catalog queen.

What is the motivation behind creating and using the term? It is interesting that most labels are often negative. Even the words "stamp collector" has been used to describe some negative aspect of a person.

Should this post be in a different thread?

One member once heard the term. He, later, explained a dealer had used it for people who chase after high-catalogued items.

In a post, the OP inquired after a paper that was a certificate in German. The member in question, rather than answering felt called upon to point at the age of OP's certificate, Consequently, the member reproached others for not pointing out the habit of the expertiser to apply a marking on the back of the stamps, when in fact another member had hinted at it. When the member was informed it had been implied, he threw a tantrum and started calling others 'Catalogue Queens' for referring OP to the catalogue listing for the set that had varieties.

I have only seen posts using some variation of this.

This thread has a natural death date of Monday August 19, 2023. The natural death date was preselected by the speaker who announced in an open meeting (put into the wild) the subject matter of this thread, be it fact or false. While claimed as false, and I have no reason to doubt that claim, August 19, 2023 remains the euthanasia date for this topic.

I know where OP picked up the story....

I, the OP, look forward to seeing if the "story spinner" seems at all remorseful at starting what is now considered a false narrative. I expect to be seeing him shortly.

Everything is the same until it changes. When it does, I'll let you know.

I'd really hoped I wouldn't have to keep posting it. But alas...

Fun story: I was once planning to run for Congress in Maryland. The year was 2009, and I had a campaign team in place. The only thing left to do was announce my resignation to my current boss with a transition plan. As luck would have it, he had other things on his mind and blew off the meeting to head off to a faraway place for five days.

Long story short, I ultimately pulled the plug on the congressional bid to stay in South Carolina and see through the mess. My then-campaign manager still reminds me of the decision at least once a year.

The moral of the story is life has a way of getting in the way of your plans. But that's how I ended up here.

Scott

Hi Scott,
As I am sure you have noticed, I have not lock this thread. I think that the thread was poorly started (title and wording) and would have been far better if it had been in a more general context such as 'the APS Executive Director position is coming up for renewal, what is your opinion on the next step for this position'.

I also would have interceded if the thread had been about a hobbyist and not someone in an important position in a national philatelic organization. As a public figure and a person with significant experience in the rough and tumble S.C. political environment, I felt that you had the chops to deal with this kind of situation. I also felt that in your reply you chose to not decisively settle the question and instead leave the door (and your options) open. No one should have an issue with a person leaving their options open, but it also should not be too surprising that until a final decision (staying or leaving) has been made public that folks will be unsure and still wondering.

I apologize for some of the SCF antagonists and the way this thread unfolded. But as I am sure you know, 'pot stirrers' exist in every segment of the world and trying to police other people's intentions gets into very dicey areas. This can especially be true given the nature of online anonymity.

Man plans, God laughs.

Scott:

I suspect there are many in the silent majority here who admire and respect your work with the APS, as well as your tolerance of some of the folks who post here.
