Scott,
As I've stated elsewhere before, you already know how appreciative I am of all your efforts and the positive impact you've had on the APS during your tenure.

In an earlier post in this thread, a poster mentioned that you had no experience with our hobby when you came in as director. Now that you're on the way out, I was wondering if you've been affected by the stamp collecting contagion. Will you retain your APS membership, and other memberships (like with the ESPHS)? Will you be collecting in any shape or form?

All the best to you in your future endeavors!

George DeKornfeld

I think we owe Scott an ovation for his work as Executive Director. Retiring the mortgage on the HQ property was significant. Holding dues steady in recent years a notable achivement when set against the long decline in numbers caused largely by plain old demographics working against us. Pushing into new electronic ways of connecting, both for current collectors and potential new collectors was essential. Bonus points for engaging with us in the Stamp Community Forum. So I concur with those who've thanked Scott.

For docgfd -- if you (or others) have not seen it, in the July number of the American Philatelist, Scott's column on p. 6 notes that he did indeed get bitten by the bug. It's illustrated with a nice, very colorful Dorothy Knapp cover from 1952 which is in his collection.

Best wishes to you Scott.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words.

I have let many of my local memberships go, but I have truly loved being a member of so many chapters. Several APS Chapters have bestowed life membership on me, and I will be eternally connected to clubs from coast to coast. I will retain my memberships with the ATA, AFDCS, RPSL, USPCS, and several other societies that not only nurture my collecting but also allow me to develop friendships over the past decade. I am a life member of the APS and APRL, and I expect to still go to stamp shows as travel allows.

I am organizing my collection of the US 1013, Women in Our Armed Services Stamp and hope to exhibit it sometime before I retire. I also have a considerable Cuba collection (Republic period) and South Carolina Postal History.
