From an email from ebay:

"We are happy to report that, thanks to your efforts, Congress has restored the original 1099-K reporting threshold of $20,000 and 200 transactions. This change will prevent millions of Americans who are selling used, personal items from receiving unnecessary and confusing tax forms.

This change wouldn't have been possible without the voice of the ebay Main Street community. Thank you for speaking up and making your voice heard!

Sincerely,

The ebay Government Relations Team"

s unavoidable, but there is no, zero, none of purposefully included.

Yes! Great news for sellers and a bit of clarification for ebay's statement---

Ah yes, ebay headquartered in California USA, in the San Francisco Bay Area, where it is illegal to say anything supportive of President Trump, credits Congress for the change, and ignore who pushed the OBBBA for Congress to pass and who signed it into law 7-4-2025.

Quote:
Section 70432 of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), the reporting threshold for Form 1099-K returns to $20,000 and 200 transactions. Per the legislation, this takes effect "as if included in section 9674 of the American Rescue Plan Act."
Quoted from: https://www.avalara.com/blog/en/nor...reshold.html Furthermore, " as if included in section 9674 of the American Rescue Plan Act" translates to the word, "now."

Considering the OBBBA passed by a near straight party line vote with no Democrats voting in favor in the Senate nor House, one must believe ebay believes most all of their "voice of the ebay Main Street community" customers in the USA are NOT Democrat party members but urged the Republicans to vote in favor.

President Trump screws up yet again causing a left leaning company to thank him. https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/eb...d=D000021970 demonstrates the ebay left lean. The thanks, well hidden but obvious, is in the quoted ebay statement by the OP.

Now when folks list POTUS Trump stamps on ebay and similar platforms, the Republican sellers can thank the man on the stamp for the tax break. Of course so can the Democrat sellers, that s if it ever becomes safe and legal to thank 47 as a democrat party member.

In an effort to stay politically neutral, I used the preferred terms for the current POTUS as follows; Republican, President Trump, Democrats, 47***.

***Yes there are many preferred names used, but only "47" complies with the SCF Family Posting Standards.

I am not a registered Republican nor Democrat, I have registered as decline to state or as non-partisan from my first registration and continued as such with my second and most recent registration. Only moved once since age 18.

believe in thanks the officeholder, not a party nor a ticket.

For balance, I will say one thing I am thankful for which was done by POTUS Biden and that was restoring my whole Social Security which was cut by Senator Biden and others back in 1986. A promise he made when running for office and carried out by POTUS Biden (or POTUS Auto-pen) days before the end of his term. When I use stamps with his picture, I will thank him for my extra monthly money as it just covered the inflation hit took for the 1-20-2021 to 1-20-2025 period.

Well stated PPG. And yes, Trump is to thank. We can use his name, right? I mean this entire forum is replete with mentions of Presidents of every Party and vintage. When discussing Lincoln do we have to use "16" or when mentioning Carter do we instead use "39"? Tell me the answer is a resounding "NO".

When I worked and wore ties, I was one of those guys who wore odd or interesting ties, mostly from Museum Artifacts before they became big by being bought out. While I knew of stores which carried them you could find them at stamp shows due to the many designs that where stamped themed. I also went for other bold graphic ties, think of a large Tabasco Bottle, a street car over a San Francisco map and the like. I matched them with colorful shirts with matching socks (when I could). Thus I happened to have some political ties. One showed Democrat and one showed Republican campaign pins. I always only wore one when knew I could wear the other the next day. I wanted balance and it kept the higher ups happy. I worked in a Congressional district which was far, far left and democrat, first covered by Ron Dellums then by Barbara Lee both of whom left Congress and retired to being the Mayor of Oakland, California, the largest city in their old districts. This is across the bay from San Francisco. I received no negative comments when I had on my democrat tie, but someone always had a negative comment about the republican tie. I looked at them blankly pulled my tie up and pointed to one centrally located button an asked, what is wrong with Lincoln? I got so good I could do t without looking and eventually the comments stopped. The biggest complainer gave me side-eye at times to which I smiled and pointed at the Lincoln, no words exchanged. Eventually she realized, I was being fair as I did in fact where both ties equally.

I also wore one tie on certain days and when supervising election workers and voters, it was covered in black signatures on a variable yellow/gold background, the signature of every dead elected former POTUS up to and including Ronald Regan and may have had Ford. I knew about. Reagan because his was one signature that was prominent in the design. I got called out about that until everyone understood all signatures were present. Understand Reagan was defeated in the 1984 election in, Alameda County by a vote percentage only exceeded by San Francisco. During his landslide 525 of 538 electoral votes, losing only MN (10) and DC (3), highest ever for an elected POTUS, he lost in 5 of the 58 California counties, four of which are in the SF Bay Area with one, Santa Cruz part depending on how the geography is considered and by what agency. The last was Yolo county adjacent to Sacramento California, the capitol city. So yeah, people noticed his signature. Yes, I eventually left Alameda County and moved to another county which also voted against Reagan.

So I have always learned to balance and acknowledge both political sides (extremes?) and all parties (CA had and has far more than just Donkey and Elephant).

Speaking of large mammals in the room, I should mention former VP Harris. In California she won just 58.5% of the vote in 2024 when Reagan won 57.51% and only 25 counties while Reagan won 52. I mention this to show how much more polarized the vote was in 2024 versus 1984. She won in fewer places, but the more populous places in greater percentages. Since I had occasion to work with her in one of her previous jobs, I will say no more than she was a product of the SF Bay Area Democrat Political Machine and its biggest loss to date.

So again, I cannot fault ebay for not mentioning POTUS #47 Donald J. Trump. To paraphrase Darth Vader (invented here) about the SF Bay Area, The indoctrination is strong in this one area.

Caveat to those who think they're off the hook, if you live in a state with a lower mandatory reporting threshold (as I do), the above reversion does not apply. If you meet your state's minimum threshold, you will still get a 1099, and it will be reported to both state and fed.

Handy reference that lists the states and their reporting thresholds:

Living in a state shown as "No" followed by four blanks is a great thing.
