Greetings from the CCF Coin Forum. I acquired a large postage collection, mostly stuff to use for shipping, and some stuff to toss in my ebay store. But this interesting and older cover was in it.

Anyone familiar with this one? I have done exhaustive searches here and on sites like ebay, with no luck. Most covers from this era tend to be lower denomination stamps, but this one has the $1 stamp and 50c stamp. The postmarks are dated 13 July 1942.

Possibly connected with the Rangers Canadiens du Quebec?

The cover screams "philatelic in nature" given that there is no rate including for registered that brings you to that postage amount, the cover is very "composed"; neat, squared away, typewritten address, stamps carefully placed, cancellations also carefully placed and light and of course the cache.

Has the cover been opened? It appears to be unopened or very carefully opened.

PS: RJ Saunders was a Toronto publisher who died in 1945.

The cover is unopened. I am trying to research its value, before I put it in my ebay store. Maybe this is an item that I just let loose with a no-reserve auction.

This is the back of the cover, showing carefully placed cancellation stamps also over the sealed envelope lip.

I believe the flap was cancelled in two places a requirement for registered mail. Does there feel like or appear to be any contents?

Although I collect this period I would not buy this cover, even if offered for 10 cents, as it is obviously philatelic..

Your idea of listing it on ebay with no reserve has some merit but the stamp themselves would have some, fairly low, value if they were removed from the cover so I suggest you look at it from that point of view before listing it. They appear to be very lightly cancelled - many of these high values have very heavy parcel cancellations.

I would sell this as it is and would expect it to go for around $10 CDN eventually as a BIN.

Edit for explanation:
I have sold a lot of covers like this. Generally higher value go for $10-30 depending on the number of stamps and series. This has only two so a bit lower. The V cachet is likely more sought after so I think at least $10 is reasonable but where I think it actually loses money is that it is addressed. Unaddressed, I'd put this at $15. Addressed, $10

I appreciate all your input. I was not expecting a lottery ticket with this one, just was trying to track down information, especially with that "V for Victory" label that I had not seen before.

Thanks everyone!
