The ancient and rare West Indian Ocean Coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae) is pictured on this 1989 stamp from the Republic of South Africa.

From Wikipedia, "Coelacanths were thought to have become extinct in the late Cretaceous, around 68 million years ago, but were rediscovered in 1938 off the east coast of South Africa."

The postmark on this stamp is TWEESPRUIT. This is a small (population 5791) dairy farming town in the Free State province (Wikipedia).
