Not sure if this is older than 1940 so I listed it here.
Anyone know what this is?

Hi nutmeg,

This is Turkish stamp from 1898 issued for use by the army when occupying Thessaly in Greece. It's Scott #M3 / SG M164.

Kind of weird saying "Dangerous" forgeries exist. So far I have not been hurt so mine must be authentic- :>)

There are forgeries that look "better" ("crisper" details) than the originals.

Neat stamp.

With the shape, it must have been a real pain to tear them apart!

They were squared off with selvage triangles in each corner. That way, you could separate them as squares, and then take the next step of removing the triangles at each corner to create the octagon (or not).

As Collin explained:

(BTW this is also another "orphan" stamp, ie it does not have
country of origin in its design)

Not having a country on it made for quite a search. First I looked at Spain then Italy. After no luck with France I started thinking it wasn't a stamp at all.
That's when I put it up here and you guys pegged it in a few minutes.
What is surprising is that they sell for just chump change on ebay. I also have the green one and the orange.
