and more... Quote: In 1998, Tuvalu began deriving revenue from use of its area code for "900" lines and from the sale of its ".tv" Internet domain name.
Because of the country's remoteness, tourism does not provide much income; a hundred tourists are estimated to visit Tuvalu annually. |

WOW! A Tuvalu thread started by someone other than me. That is all true what you quoted SV, except very little revenue come from stamps anymore due to huge mistakes in hiring philatelic agents. http://tuvaluislands.com/stamps/LOW_story.htmAs for .TV, it is pretty good income, but they are trying to renegotiate the deal as they feel they have been ripped off by Verisign, and I have to agree with them... |

BeeSee, can you show some examples of postally used cancellations compared to cancelled-to-order cancellations? I'm going through a batch of used Tuvalu now and I don't really know what to look for. I'm sure some of it is from "manufactured kiloware" but there are also some that look to be postally used, and I don't see much difference in the cancellations.

Ryan, most used Tuvalu stamps would have the following cancels, there is one for each island post offices: Funafuti is by far the most common, being the capital and home of the Philatelic Bureau. The Philatelic Bureau had the identical cancel as the Funafuti post office and used it to stamp covers containing collectors orders, and also to cancel stamps to order. In most cases it is impossible to distinguish postally used stamps with CTO if the gum is soaked off. Most Kiloware I have seen from Tuvalu is completely fake, including the postmarks used, not even closely resembling a genuine postmark, and are most often seen on "Leaders of the World" remainders that never were place on sale in Tuvalu. Here are some fake examples: Good luck and I hope this helps. Post any images you have, I would like to see the cancels. |

A Greenie...
A Green party or ecologist party is a formally organized political party based on the principles of Green politics, which is founded in many countries. These principles include social justice, reliance on grassroots democracy, nonviolence, and an emphasis on environmentalism. "Greens" believe that the exercise of these principles leads to world health. |

Oh we have the Green party in Canada, I just never heard them called greenies. I asked my son, and he said the only greenies he knew of came from nose mining |

Most Kiloware I have seen from Tuvalu is completely fake, including the postmarks used, not even closely resembling a genuine postmark, and are most often seen on "Leaders of the World" remainders that never were place on sale in Tuvalu. Actually, it's an example of the Leaders of the World series that had me wondering. Some (most) of the LOW stamps had the same fake cancel you show as an example. But there were a couple that had a cancellation that looked much like postally used stamps, although they had the clean corner cancellation that I had suspected to be a CTO cancellation (I'm assuming that the 40c ray stamp shown was postally used). Is it uncommon to find LOW stamps with the proper Tuvalu postmark? Ryan edit - hmmm, upon looking at it, the shape of the "U" is too open for a proper cancellation. But it still isn't one of the single-ring obviously fake ones. |
