Hello, I use the Scott 2009 Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue Volume 5 to organize my Russian stamp collection. Does anyone have a recommendation as to anything better I could use. Thanks, Jon

If you want to collect on general level, then Your alternatives are basically either Michel OstEurope Katalog (in German) , Stanley Gibbons Pt.10 Russia catalog (in English), or Standard Collection Russia/Soviet Union catalogs (in Russia). These all are IMHO superior to Scott.

If you want to dig in deeper, then Michel and Standard Collection do have highly recommendable specialized volumes as well.

I use the Russian language "Postage Stamps of Russia & USSR (1857-1991) Specialized Catalogue Vol. 1" by U.Y. Soloviev. There is some info & guides in English. Volume 1 covers Imperial Russia, Zemstvos, other locals, all former territories before 1945, minus Finland & offices abroad. Great detail!

I enjoy searching for plate varieties, so I was happy to find this catalogue. It uses Michel numbers as the basis for the numbering system, and is fully bilingual in Russian and English. The catalogue's foreword mentions that the authors intend to start an internet site that will contain new info regarding these plate varieties, but so far all that's there is a brief description of the catalogue.
