This 2003 commemorative stamp of Spain celebrates the centenary of the Sabadell Sports Center Football Club in Catalonia.

The stamp set depicts acrobatic gymnastics, balance beam, and still rings.

On July, 27, 1979 Japan issued this stamp (Sc. #1372) to commemorate the 50th National Intercity Baseball Championships. This is an annual, amateur baseball tournament.

From Japan Post, "The tournament has been held in Tokyo every summer except for the war period of 1943-5...The growth of the tournament may be seen in the fact that as many as 32 teams now participate in the national compared with 12 at the first (1927) meeting."

This October 26, 1969 issue of Japan depicts a rugby player. It publicizes the 24th National Athletic Meet which was held in Nagasaki Prefecture from October 26-31. The old illustration depicts "Rugby game in Yokohama, 1874 (Wikipedia)."

From Wikipedia, "The first recorded instance of a team being established and rugby being played in Japan was in 1866 with the founding of the Yokohama Foot Ball Club...The date of local Japanese participation is most frequently cited as 1899, when students at Keio University were introduced to the game by Professor Edward Barnwell Clarke (who was born in Yokohama) and Ginnosuke Tanaka."
