On August 23, 1991 Japan issued these two stamps (Sc. #s 2118-9) to publicize the 3rd IAFF World Track and Field Championships.

This October 7, 1993 issue of Japan (Sc. #2215) publicizes the 10th World Veterans' Athletic Championships held in Miyozaki Prefecture. This event is held every two years for Olympic veterans and other athletes over the age of 35 years. Today it is called the World Masters Athletics Championships.

On June 22, 1998 Japan issued this stamp (Sc #Z246) to publicize the 9th ISF Women's World Softball Championship which it hosted in Shizuoka Prefecture, home of Mt. Fuji. Stamps were produced in traditional sheets and in booklets of 10 stamps (1 or 2 straight edges).

This event is a fast pitch softball tournament among national teams. Until 2012, the championship was held every 4 years. Now, the tournament is every 2 years.

Team U.S.A. won the 1998 championship.

The subject of this June 30, 1984 Finnish commemorative cancel is running. Utsjoki, Lapland is the country's northernmost municipality. Helsinki is in the far south. According to the distance.to website, the highway driving distance between the two municipalities is 795.2miles, or 1280.26 kilometers.

So, I am guessing that the runners ran portions of this distance.

This 5.00 kr stamp (Facit #1054) was issued by Norway on February 29, 1989 to publicize World Championships in Cross Country to be held at Scanvest Ring in Stavanger on March 19, 1989. There were four classes of races, each with a different distance. The senior men's was 12 km, while the senior women's 6 km. The junior men's was 8 km, and the junior women's was 4 km.
