Las Palmas Social Welfare Charity "Stamp"

This could probably fit in a few different places, but I'll put it here.




This scan doesn't do justice to the depth of the color. I think there are at least three values, maybe more.

Nice stamp, do you know the date? Looks mid-30's.

I think it is Spanish Civil War era. I've seen one reference to 1937, but I haven't looked too exhaustively, yet.

Rod, I've seen your block listed as 1938, if I recall correctly, but I sure would like to get a Sofima catalogue. The last one I ran across was almost 200 euros, but I didn't shop around, at all. That could be akin to the dream prices some Amazon sellers place on used books that can easily be found for $10.

For what its worth, the note with my 5c green, above, said "Sofima #16".

I think Revstampman had a sofima cat for sale, Collin?
His post on those catalogues have disappeared.

The Stamp has a black bar covering "Correos"

In the last cover, in the green local Las Palmas stamp the word CORREOS was delete with this black overprinted for do not confuse with stamps issued by spanish mail.

In the local charity stamp shown before, a particular detail :
they have german watermark !



They were printed in Germany?
Or perhaps the paper was bought in Germany and the stamps printed in Spain?

rod222, in the 20's the early Colombia airmail stamps (SCADTA) were also printed in Germany in this paper. Maybe in 30's Spain do the same.

SOFIMA is acronym of SOCIEDAD FILATELICA DE MADRID. These catalog must be made by them

I am a newbie with Colombia.
I do know some of the early semi official air stamps/ labels
were printed at the State Printing Works Berlin
(source The Witt Collection, and Rainer Fuchs pages on the web)
There must have been a close relationship
regarding Germany and Colombia during the early flight years.

The 1932 Colombian air stamps were printed by typography
at the state printing works Berlin, watermark SG W48 paper.
Then optd at Bogata.

The Las Palmas probably were produced there.

I found the green 5c stamp too. Came across this thread when trying to identify it.

No real new information, but they're selling the mint 5c green and and a mint 10c red together for $1, which gives a general reference point on value. They call them "Canary Island Charity Labels", and say they were issued in 1937.

Quatrefoil and rings ('Kreuzblüten und Ringe') watermark to be precise.

The charity stamps showing the arms of Las Palmas, also, were officially overprinted to be used as airmail stamps. They further, exist as blocks privately overprinted with a black border and text honouring Generals Sanjurjo and Mola, and the politician José Calco Sotelo.
