This is a thematic thread, not just a simple stamp gallery. Simply posting a stamp with a caption like "this is one" isn't enough. We can all see that the stamp features a bridge - not a crocodile or something random. To contribute meaningfully, include at least a sentence or two explaining which bridge is depicted and why the stamp was issued. Context adds value, and that's what makes this thread interesting for everyone. I think this applies to all threads in SCF - Topical Stamps Collecting. |

The Bridge to Victory After the United States entered World War II in late 1941, the government began issuing war bonds to help finance military production and armaments. To rally public support and encourage citizens to invest, authorities used various forms of propaganda -including postage stamps. One such meter served not only as a functional piece of mail but also as a powerful symbol of national unity and the collective effort to win the war. |

Austria Scott 1332 Issued for the 75th Anniversary of the second high-source water pipeline also called aquaduct. Two major aqueducts bring fresh water from the Alps to Vienna, supplying the city with clean drinking water. The First Vienna Mountain Spring Pipeline (completed 1873) and the Second Vienna Spring Water Main (completed 1910) transport water from springs in Lower Austria and Styria, passing through numerous smaller aqueducts along their long routes to the city. So we have a bridge here that was not built to carry across pedestrians or vehicles or trains but water pipes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water...ly_in_Vienna |

Pont des cadets - Cadets' Bridge In May 1940, Germany invaded France. The French were quickly defeated. By June 16, apart from minor skirmishes, the war was nearly over, and Marshal Pétain ordered a ceasefire the following day. However, at a section of the French defensive positions along the Loire River in the town of Saumur, officer cadets from the local cavalry school refused to surrender. Between June 18 and 20, they successfully defended the river crossing against significantly stronger German forces, even demolishing four bridges over the Loire to hinder the advance. In their honor, one of the bridges was named the Cadets' Bridge ( Pont des cadets). |

The Brooklyn Bridge in New York The Brooklyn Bridge in New York was opened in 1883 and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Its chief architect was German-American engineer John Augustus Roebling, who pioneered the use of steel cables in bridge construction. After Roebling's tragic death, his son took over, but he soon became seriously ill with decompression sickness. The construction of the bridge was overseen by Jonn Augustus' wife, Emily Warren Roebling ( on label). Emily was so efficient that many considered her the de facto project manager and was the first person to cross the bridge when it opened - a symbolic tribute to her extraordinary contribution. |

I wonder if the post card bridge is the same as the one on the Jamaican stamp. The postmark reads: KNOCK PATRICK 19 SP 39 JAMAICA JAMAICA (STAMPWORLD) 127, showing a bridge from a distance near CASTLETON. The two-penny and a half-penny stamp was first issued in 1938. |
