Does anyone collect Falkland Islands?

I do and it is a very collectible area.

Not religiously, but I've got a pretty good start from Victoria through George VI...very hit and miss after that. Needless to say, I've got a ways to go to complete the KGVs.

They'd fit in nice with a Pitcairn collection.

You're probably right Bob. I haven't pulled the catalog to check out the relative value yet but the scarcity may be reflected there.

I'm 6 or 8 sets short of completing my Pitcairn Island collection through 2009. I've been all over the place trying to decide where to go next (Spain, Malta, Cyprus, etc.) and came across some of the penguin issues from the Falkland Islands on ebay. It's got me thinking . . . . . .

Cjd - AnthonyUK: Are the FI issues readily available mint at a reasonable price? I haven't looked closely yet, but I know the 1933 set that I really like is probably beyond my means.

I have begun to delve into GB and Colonies. Haven't seen much of Falkland Island stamps as yet.

I have always had a keen interest in Falkland Island stamps but to say I am a collector of them would be grossly overstating the case. Since no one else has put any stamps on here I will. This sheet comprises my complete Falkland collection in a rough format that I refer to as a holding pen pending my putting them in some presentable order at some point in the future which could be years from now. As they say in the cooking world, or should I say culinary, presentation is everything.

They are very hard to come by for a good price which is why I also agree with Cynical regarding overstating the term collector in my case too.
You will almost certainly never complete this collection if you do start.

Having served there, it is one of the areas in my collecting radar.

If you like penguins and collect MNH, what about Australian Antarctic Territory? Some of the most attractive penguin stamps around, and not hard to get a full set, as the first issues were 1958?



Alternatively, what about a time limited collection of Spain, eg 1958 - 1970? Lots of really beautiful engraved stamps and art stamps, and readily available. Spain overall is a fantastic country to collect, but will be very expensive if you want a complete set.

For penguiuns TAAF (French Antarctic) is my favourite.
Another area of interest for me but pretty expensive.

I used to buy "phossick boxes" from auctions before they became
popular. David.
I used to pay >$30 a box.

10 years later they are $300 and my collecting has dwindled because of that.
