This topic and the link to an older one which is included taught this "old dog a new trick".

I have been collecting stamps for almost 65 years, always licked my hinges and complained how hard it is to get a hinge off of a page or stamps without damage or tearing. I wish I had some of those Dennison hinges, I remember the green peelables.

But someone mentioned that it says "moisten" - and that that person used a little spit on a finger, and transferred that small amount to another finger and then to the stamp for a minimal amount of gum on the stamps. I tried it and it really works.

Also tried to nab a package of Dennisons which was listed on E-Bay. I was willing to go as high as $25 but it sold for $38. Amazing that someone hasn't been able to reproduce the quality they had.

That is actually at least the second trick I have learned on this site -rubbing the hinges with the flat edge of my tongs to release the hinge from the stamp was the other. So guess I am not too old to learn a few new things.
