Nice material. An interesting tidbit on the second cover, is the cancellation and/or sender's address (courtesy of Wiki):

"Originally known as Manitou, the town tried to change the name to Manitou Springs in 1885, but the proper paperwork was not filed. In early 1935 the voters officially approved the name change to Manitou Springs, and the change was endorsed by the Colorado Secretary of State later that same year."

So Manitou would be the correct cancellation from 1917, but since it is noted that in 1935 the name was changed to Manitou Springs, technically Manitou became a discontinued post office (if only in its name) and was thereafter known as Maintou Springs.

So... Trivia question (that I do not know the answer to):

What is the last year that one could actually have a Christmas Day cover?
We all know that somewhere in history, the day became holiday for postal workers.
When was that?
I would think that from that point on, it would be technically impossible to have
a cover cancelled on December 25... Correct?

Here's a 1954 cover, but I assume that they're still doing this at Christmas, FLA?

I'm pretty sure you can still get a Christmas day postmark here in the US. The main Postal facility where I live (Minneapolis) runs 24/7 , 365 days a year.

Hmm my contribution to the thread, but not really a USA cover eventhough it ended up being mailed here. Will post the contents in another thread as I am curious about what it says.
