A few of us were waxing poetically a few days ago on another thread about the 1952 movie (and song) High Noon starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, who later went on to become Princess Grace of Monaco.

Flipping through my covers this morning I came across this one, which movie fans, cover lovers and monarchists might enjoy.

Grace Kelly made it on to postage stamps. I think Audie Murphy did in the States but thinking of High Noon made me think of Shane. Did Alan Ladd make it on to a postage stamp?

I really liked Allan Ladd when I was a kid..Veronica Lake as well...but he must have needed money and made some crumby movies at the end of his career !!

I always thought of Allan Ladd as a wooden kind of actor but he was
rather good in Shane and in the war movie were he played himself.
Can't remember the name of that one and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Thanks Litho. The thread was missing something and those two images just make it complete. Me and my buddies would carry potato sacks and search the ditches for empty pop bottles then cash them in and hitch-hike to the next town (Wingham, Ontario) where there was a movie theater. Loved those old movie posters on the outside of the theater. My parents did not find out until many years later that I had been hitch-hiking.

I think Alan Ladd appeared on a Cinderella
from the film Shane, on a similar format to the US
Vitagraph cinderellas produced by Wents of NY and Germany.
very scarce items.

Litho: was it Alan Ladd or Audie Murphy who played himself in a war movie or both? Audie was on a stamp I think?
