You can aim for precision. You can aim for clarity. And occasionally, you approach both. Then just to prove that Post Offices still do offer up great SON cancels. |

Lot of coincidences for me so far in this two page thread:
DJD: thanks for the Newfoundland stamp. I was born north of the US border but not in Canada.
Philb: While in the RCAF I also worked on the F104 Starfighter although ours was the CF104G built at the Canadair plant in Montreal under licence from Lougheed. I have described it as a missile with a pilot in the front. We have a Canadian stamp of the plane but my scan is not SON but mint. I'm not sure what she means but I think my wife thinks I'm "interesting" but she doesn't use that word.
Backroads: your beautiful Harriston, Ontario postmark brings back memories. After leaving Newfoundland my father was a brakeman on the CPR Orangeville - Teeswater railway run, which I have mentioned in another thread. Harriston was one of the stops and I still have familial connections there. I'm always looking for postmarks from the various towns and villages along that line. |

This one was close... (A pretty combination...and coincidentally January 15th, but I probably won't be available on the 15th to add it to the calendar thread.) This one was closer... This is my first used Wenden/Livonia without a pen cancel... ...didn't even know there were postmarks on Wenden. |

I'm now looking closer at the stamp I posted above, is there a possibility its some sort of precancel?
it seems so perfect with both placements?? |

Wenden only cancelled it stamps with a pencancel. However, when used with Russian stamps, sometimes a Russian cancel was applied to the stamps.

Here's another group. Not perfect but they managed to trick the regional sorter in Vancouver into supplying a good cancellation. They make a pretty grouping. |

That explains why I pretty much only see Wenden with a pen cancel. Thanks guys. |
