this one is interesting, Dahomey used at Atakpame in Togo in Dec 1916. In theory there should have been occupation stamps used in Togo by this point (Dahomey stamps with Togo/Occupation Anglo-Francaise issue) so not sure why this unoverprinted Dahomey stamp would have been used. |

I *think* this is from Dedougou, which is now in Burkina Faso (Upper Volta) but which was part of the Ivory Coast after the Upper Volta colony was partitioned in the 1930s |

I think Dedougou exists as 'Deadougou' which would fit a little better. Not to take anything away from the neat Atakpame strike, but with evidence of cancels on both sides of this stamp, do you think the entire sheet might have been canceled at once? (I didn't check to see if 3x 35 makes any sense as a postal rate...maybe it does.) More great stuff here. I particularly like the Ambatolampy. |

Replying to DJCMH1971's question regarding the use of unoverprinted Dahomey stamps in Togo, the stamps of Dahomey were considered valid at all French-operated post offices in occupied Togo during the war. I have several philatelic covers with Dahomey stamps used in occupied Togo. Travelers from Dahomey may have also carried stamps with them and used them while in Togo. |

Here is a block socked on the nose with a Shanghai cancel on a King Edward VII 2c block of four: Those who don't use Gibbons might be interested to know that the China cancels on Hong Kong stamps are priced individually from Victoria into George V's reign. This is not a particularly splashy combination, from a CV point of view. Some China cancels on some HK stamps do pretty well, though. |
