BAILE ATHA CLIATH 16.06.95 D.M.C. Here is another modern Irish postmark. Baile Atha Cliath is Dublin, in English. Dublin is the capital, and the largest city, with a metropolitan population of 1.35 million (2016). The "D.M.C." stands for Dublin Mail Centre. From the anpost.ie website, "The Dublin Mail Centre is one of four mail centres; the others are based in Athlone, Cork, and Portlaoise." Second pic shows the Dublin Mail Centre. |

Found this one today going through and pre-organizing an inherited collection... Looks pretty dead eye on bullseye to me! |

Hab, I am not suggesting yours is valuable, but these command good prices at auction depending on clarity, and scarcity. You have a nice example, treat it well. |

ESPOO 17.10.2002 This bilingual cancel of Espoo, Finland is in Finnish at the top, and Swedish at the bottom. Espoo lies just to the west of Helsinki. It is the second most populous (272,193) city in the country. Archaelogical evidence indicates that the area was first inhabited about 9000 years ago. |

AN TINBHEAR MOR 25. 10. 18 This modern Irish cancel is for the town of An Tinbhear Mor (English = Arklow) with a population of ca. 14000, in County Wicklow on the east coast, below Dublin. From travelmath.com, "The total driving distance is 43 miles or 69 kilometers." A PortLaoise Mail Center 25., 10. 18 machine cancel can be seen under the circular date stamp (CDS). From Wikipedia, "Its Irish name Inbhear Mor or An tinbhear Mor, rmeans 'the large estuary'...Historically, it was a major seafaring town, with both shipping and fishing industries using the port, with shipbuilding also being a major industry...On June 9, 1798, the town was the scene of one of the bloodiest battles of the 1798 rebellion when a large force of Wexford rebels attacked the town in an attempt to spread the rising to Dublin but was repulsed by the entrenched British forces with huge slaughter." |

BAILE COIMIN 10.6.19 Here is another modern Irish postmark, with the "woven" circle of the CDS. Cancel is on a 2019 "SOAR" (stamps on a roll), computer-vended stamp. The date code printed at time of purchase is 19161, meaning 20 19 161st day, or June 10, 2019 which is the day the stamp was processed at Baile Coimin. From Wikipedia, "Blessington, historically known as Balleycomeen (Irish: Baile Coimin, meaning town of Comyn, from the Irish surname O Coimin) is a town on the River Liffey in Wicklow, Ireland, near the border with Kildare. It is around 25km south-west of Dublin...Since 2000, Blessington's population has increased substantially at 5010 at the 2011 census, up from 2509 in 2000." |
