I'm familiar with the duplex cancel with the straight bar obliterator but not with a wavy one as shown on these images postmarked from Alberta. Two and perhaps even the third one are from Fairview, Alberta. I have looked the cancellation up in the resources available to me (Boggs, Jarrett) and haven't found it. Can anyone tell me anything about this cancellation.

Ian Tyson would have just been learning to play the guitar at about this time.

It looks like the "football" portion of an old duplex cancel, except with stylized killer bars. They are cute.

They are very common in small town Saskatchewan and still are being used, I am pretty certain, in a lot of the rural post offices.

Hi Cynical

This type of duplex cancellation is quite common across Canada as a whole. There are several types like the ones you have scanned and the other one has "CANADA" between the CDS portion and the 7 'wavy' killer line. Most types are quite common.

You might want to have a look at the following site:

http://postalhistorycanada.net/php/...ex/intro.php

This shows a variety of Canadian "Duplex" cancellations.

Hope this helps

Bujutsu: Thanks for your link. Based on that site my cancels must be "killer wavy line oval bar - convex curve ends down". This is starting to stretch the capabilities of my cataloguing system. I may have to decide soon whether I am biting off more than I want to chew in regards to trying to separate out cancels.
