Another three today, all cards
Boonville, where they speak their own language, Boontling.

Hardy

and Albion. Since Helen is bragging on "her" new hotel, I'll flip the card over.

Eleven Nov 13 postmarks today, and a different Martin's Ferry manuscript postmark for a question.
Ukiah, an up-rated PSE

Martin's Ferry;
Here are the two conflicting Manuscript postmarks. I'm guessing that the Martin's Ferry postmaster was also the ferry operator and that he was busy (ferrying, "Pull Lemual, pull") when the Nov 13,1882 Registered cover was mailed and that Mrs. Postmaster handled the mail. Philadelphia used their large receiver on the back.

Here's the other Martin's Ferry postmark mailed a few months earlier, sold by Schuyler Rumsey, forgot which year.

Here's the question. Was it common (or allowed) for the spouse of the postmaster to 'fill-in' when necessary?

Ukiah & San Fran. RPO,

Grizzly Bluff,

Thorn Registered,

Ukiah & San Fran. RPO,

Kneeland mourning cover,

Wendling,

Willits & San Fran. RPO,

Eureka,

and Hopland.

Whew!
Edit, forgot to add the question.

Here's a better view of that receiver. It's from another cover also sent to Wilcox Chemical.

Two for today.
I have three postmarks that use a 4 space month logo. It provides space for SEPT, which all 3 use, but I won't be able to show you those for a while. One of them is Rohnerville Hum-4350, another is Kibesillah Men-1920 and today's
Mendocino Men 2350. You'll note a period after NOV

Rohnerville,

Three Four postmarks today. Don't know how I missed it, but back on the 3rd, I missed this
Fort Bragg, Registered

Back to today,
Fort Bragg, Registered

Manzanita, a three-year town.

and Eureka & S. F., another 985-L-1. Way more spacing of name than 985-L-2. Plus 985-L-2 was used mid 20's to mid 30's. Do you suppose that M. C. Ward worked for the Railway Mail Service?

Edit to add comments on 985-L-2.

Good morning. Four covers from two small cities and a small town.
Fort Bragg, a small city.

Arcata, a small city.

Blocksburg, the small town. Under high magnification, most of the town name can be seen.
