Happy New Year!! Only three Jan 1 postmarks, Mckinleyville and Fort Bragg here https://goscf.com/t/11887&whichpage=131#454612and Northspur/Fort Bragg; Northspur closed it's post office May 15, 1922, and had a name change sometime after that, as noted by the return address. Tricked myself, listed the postmark date under Fort Bragg, but the scan under Northspur, took more than an hour to find it. Noyo River Tavern to Germany, |

This is the latest postmark I have for this line, The earliest Arcata & Elinor I have is Jun 22,1913. Can you guess which of these RPO's is the scarcest? |

January 8 ST. PIERRE ET MIQUELON * 8-1 44 This envelope received a faint CONTROLE POSTALE censorship marking on Iles St. Pierre et Miquelon and an equally faint PASSED U.S. CUSTOMS at C.J.M. Boston, Mass. Fortunately, the postmark on the five-franc 1942 Schooner issue (StampWorld.com #310) is crystal clear. The address in Washington in 1944 was that of a religious order. Today, that same address belongs to the Whitestone Group, a corporation involved in private and government security. |

I found seven postmarks for Jan 8th, three here, https://goscf.com/t/11887&whichpage=132#455728False Cape, a pretty early short-lived Humboldt post office, opened Dec 12,1870 and closed Jan 7, 1879. I can't locate it on any map I have, but the name reminds me of low tide. Office moved to Capetown. Ukiah, Arcata, and Capetown. |

January 9 - a WWII cover. POINTE A PITRE 9 JANV 41 GUADELOUPEThe postal customer paid nineteen francs to get their letter to Africa from the West Indies. Two copies of Guadeloupe (StampWorld.com) #122, two-franc stamps, a copy of #124 a five-franc stamp and a copy of #125, a ten-franc stamp. The design on each stamp is the port of Pointe-ŕ-Pitre, from where the letter originated. That stamp series began issuing in 1928. CASABLANCA-POSTES 19 15H45 FEVR 41 MAROCIt took just over a month for the letter to arrive at its destination. There is a POSTAL CONTROLE handstamp on the front showing the letter was inspected in Guadeloupe. Unfortunately, there is no transit marking to confirm that the Via Azores instruction was followed. |

January 10 DEDOUGOU 10 JANV 35 COTE D'IVOIRE Postage stamps of Upper Volta (StampWorld.com #47 & 48) showing "local motives". These two stamps are the ten and fifteen-centime values from a set issued in 1928. I do not fully understand the administrative arrangement of 1935, but as you can see, Dedougou was and is located in what was then Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso} and yet the postmark shows it as the Ivory Coast. |
